Why do morons think the world will end in 2012?

ive noticed alot of people are like "OMG THE WORLD WILL END IN 2012", with reasons ranging from an "antichrist" to a "global pole shift" or something. when can people realise that there has being 100+ "doomsday dates" because of other paranoia about normal events, and that religion is all fake so there is no point thinking it might be the "return of christ" or w/e.
