Why was there so much hostility toward the Habsburgs during the sixteenth century?

I would not say there was more hostility than usual or expected. Habsburg's had strong positions, endangering the rest of Europe to make a huge empire (from Spain through middle Europe, part of Germany and more to the east). So it is reasonable why others joined against them.
