Get a good encyclopedia (your library should have one--please don't gamble with Wikipedia for this kind of thing!) and look up some of the things you mentioned: English history, Renaissance, Humanism. You could also try looking up the history of the Anglican church; that would probably be helpful. Another route would be to try to find a biography of Marlowe and see if there is a chapter on his historical context. Good luck!
