Why is Ella Fitzgerald credited with creating ?

To my knowledge, she isn't .. She was just very good at it and brought it to the mainstream. Al Jolson was using it before Ella was even born. singing is thought to be a musicians invention, not a vocalists. I think br players used to sing thier riffs to hear them before attempting to play them... thats what I thought...
