Why should my husband pay this much alimony? and should he continue to?

me and my husband married a month ago he got divorced from his first wife november of 2009 he had to give her a lump sum of 100,000 dollars and he has to pay her 2600 a month until december 2012 which is 3 years of alimony payments and 93,000 dollars right now we are barely able to afford food at the end of the month we have about 200 dollars for food and medicine. she also has slandered him on facebook and has made all his friends and some family hate him and its like being in middle school all over again. he has 2 kids with her but they are 20 and 21 they also think he should be paying them every month but he pays the oldests college and they both live with their mother off his alimony she doesnt have a job neither do the daughters and they dont plan on getting one any time soon my husband wont get a lawyer. what should i do?
